"All of creation cares not whether you live or die."

| “ | How long was I gone? In Earth years? About a century. Long enough for the last of the mouth-breathers to die off. Then... the Third Kingdom is lost... – War and The Watcher, cutscene when entering The Crossroads | ” |
Earth, also known as the Third Kingdom was one of the Three Kingdoms and home to the Human race. It is the only known realm to explicitly lack an incarnation of the Tree, as its manifestation was burned to cinders by the Charred Council to restrict access to the realm.
Overview
Edit
Earth's Destroyed City is also the main setting of Darksiders. Amazingly enough, Earth was the homeworld for the Human race and was at the apex of its modern age when the Apocalypse was prematurely started. Humanity, originally given the freedom to evolve independently of the unceasing combat between Heaven and Hell could not stop the sudden onslaught of their supernatural brethren and was swiftly annihilated. It is implied on several occasions that Human race was not prepared for the End War. Had it broke loose later it might have been possible for the humans to have stood chance of survival. As stated by The Watcher, humanity as it was once known is long gone. All that remains of it are the dreaded Undead and Wicked that prowl the skeleton of its once-great-civilizations which dots its blasted and ash laden surface.
In Darksiders II, Death's mission is to resurrect humanity in order to clear War of his crimes. He eventually does so, even at the personal cost of destroying the souls of the long dead Nephilim and his life. It is speculated that humanity will be a new faction vying for survival and control in any future Darksiders installments.
Death also travel´s to Earth to retrieve the Rod of Arafel for Archon Lucien, so that he can clear a path to the Ivory Citadel. The pale rider also meets the Hellguard and saves Uriel from the demons when he arrives at the Destroyed City. It works has a dungeon in the game with lots of enemies to defeat, but with no puzzles. Death is also given the ability here to wield angel and demon cannons, to shoot his way out of the dungeon.
Trivia
Edit
- There is an unconfirmed minor detail that would contradict the common knowledge about Earth's inhabitants total annihilation. One can sometimes hear gunshots when War is in the Crossroads. It might be possible that there are still humans on Earth who survived the slaughtering of the human population (although their numbers would be few) that are fighting for survival.
