Overview
| “ | Vulgrim's twisted mind spins with so many detestable schemes that I doubt he even trusts himself. Indeed, he has grown even more devious since mankind exhaled its last breath. If this wretched demon's business is collecting souls, his pleasure is devouring them. Always ravenous, Vulgrim will beg, steal or kill for souls. He has also been known to trade for them. A desperate warrior might find such a black bargain palatable. To find him one need only seek Vulgrim's glyphs burned into the ground beneath demon haunts and the broken shells of buildings – Official description | ” |
Personality
During the course of the game Vulgrim is simply the demon merchant that provides War with various goods and upgrades so his personality isn't as developed as much as the other characters of the game though in his small appearances Vulgrim displays his character traits. He seems to be quite talkative and somewhat devious though being a demon the latter trait isn't something that someone wouldn't expect. Despite this Vulgrim seems to be fair and is always keeping his end of the bargain and actually trusts War, giving useful hints when a path is unaccessible.
He is also quite humble and will often flatter War with quotes such as "You are as wise as you are powerful.". Though at the same time he is rather blunt whenever War attempts to do something reckless and comments on it.
He may have had a love interest in Silitha, considering one of his quotes after War kills her is as follows, tho it seems more like one of many of his sarcasms:
"Ah, Silitha. I liked that one. Such a pity. You do have souls to end my sorrow, right?"
Appearances
Darksiders
His primary role throughout the course of the game is to provide War with various goods - upgrades, items, abilities and whatnot in exchange for Souls War has collected in his battles. To summon Vulgrim, all War needs to do is find one of Vulgrim's Locations and step close to it. Vulgrim's Location is indicated by runes which are hanging close to his locations at various points around the Destroyed City. Usually clearly visible from afar.
After War defeats Tiamat, Vulgrim offers War the ability to travel through Serpent Holes, the means which allow Vulgrim to get around, thus allowing War to get from one side of Destroyed City to the other instantly, but War must allow Vulgrim to take a look at a Heart of the Chosen, recently riped out of Tiamat.
Vulgrim also accepts Artifacts in trade for souls. Though you will lose the artifact in question, your artifact screen will still show that it has been collected. Other than trading for souls and obtaining an achievement/trophy they serve no purpose.
Vulgrim is perhaps the nicest demon that War will encounter next to the alliance with Samael - the Demon merchant just means good business.
Vulgrim Locations
As stated above, Vulgrim Locations appear all over the Destroyed City and are strategically placed to benefit War's travels. For example as War approaches the Twilight Cathederal, if he turns right into a small walled area right outside the entrance, a Vulgrim Location will appear in front of him; a perfect place to stock up on upgrades, purchase some Consumables or cash in an Artifact or two. Usually Vulgrim Locations are surrounded by his small, fascinating chimes that cover the area and any paths leading up to the actual location. They are very detailed in their designs and contain a blue, glowing core which shines in the sun and darkness. The chimes also emit a high-pitched bell sound that can be heard from quite a distance away. Look out for these chimes and follow them to the location where Vulgrim should be waiting.
Darksiders II
Vulgrim appears in Darksiders II, preserving his role as a merchant. He can be summoned at special demon doors scattered all over the game world by simply approaching one of said doors, after which Vulgrim will emerge from below the ground. He offers a unique range of items, most noticeably a selection of boxes which reward the player with random items when opened.
